Knitting and Crocheting

When I was a very young girl, my Grandma taught me how to knit. The first thing I remember knitting was a tie for my dad. Poor dad. It was pretty hideous. I also made a few little purses and cat toys (i.e. a mangle of yarn). As I got older, I sort of left the knitting behind until a friend of mine taught me how to crochet. That summer I made a gigantic afghan - not the best thing to make during a hot summer. But I made several more, which became gifts or adornments for my furniture. Slowly I started to realize my new-found power. I experimented with crocheting in rounds - and voila! I had doilies, coasters, and snowflake ornaments. This got me thinking more about knitting again. I learned some new stitches in both by looking up guides online. Now I always have a project going. And, inspired by my Grandma's church, I started a group at mine, called Yarners. We knit and crochet for local charities.
